Morusque
My name is Yann van der Cruyssen. I'm a sound designer, developer, and creator of various things.
Some of the games I've worked on in the past few years include Exographer, Stray, Stuck in Time, Seasons after Fall.
When did you first play OFF / how did you discover OFF?
During the 2000's I was also part of the french rpg-maker community. By the time Off was first released I had moved to other stuff and was less active in it but I knew about it and tried it a little bit, I remember that I liked the graphical style and found some dialog lines I could see on screenshots intriguing.
I only fully beat it about two years ago when Mortis told me there was a remaster planned.
Who’s your favorite character?
Fav character might be the whale seen in some battle or the plain sighing guy(s) (Elsen?).
What element are you?
What element am I? Technically meat I suppose.
What do you think fans of the genre would like about OFF?
I'm curious to see how former and new players think the game has "aged" over time. I think it's still unconventional enough for players to get interested in it.
What did you think about composing some tracks for the new soundtrack?
It was a very interesting challenge.
I remember Mortis coming to explain the situation to me some time ago. We had already worked a bit together on other projects so I knew he would allow me a lot of creative freedom. He mentioned that we could either stay very close to the original tracks or try something completely different.
In the end, I think I chose a bit of both: paying respect to the original tracks and preserving some important sound features felt important, but I occasionally deviated from the path to add some surprises that also made sense to me.
Since the OST has a consistent lo-fi vibe, I also wanted the new tracks to feel cohesive in their own way. I created specific samples and processing tools that I tried to use recurrently.

Additionally, I thought it would be interesting to create actual alternative variations of the tracks to replace what used to be typical rmk pitch-shifted playbacks.

What is the answer to the 3rd phone puzzle?
I still have the old french readme file that seems to say the third phone puzzle should be 49971640, I might be wrong. I never actually called those numbers.
